Midwives used to all be trained nurses who then specialised in midwifery, but over the past couple of years you can now do a midwifery course from scratch and not have to do nursing first. I only know the facilities in the Cardiff area as that's where I live, but Cardiff Uni does a 3 year Midwifery course. They are all 3 years courses I believe unless you decide to apply for nursing first and try to get into it that way. I would recommend finding out about your local Unis and seeing what courses they offer - Bristol might have one, or Bath. I don't know about Swindon. Good luck!

This my advice. Ask round your friends and colleague's to make sure in the adventure that they comprehend some human being who's a midwife, or perchance you comprehend one your self. attempt to rearrange a gathering with the midwife, and ask questions about how they began out. A one to one communicate with a qualified midwife might want to provide you with each and every of the archives you require to set you on the right highway. also, if you're fortunate adequate to make a pal of a midwife, then they are going to be able to recommend and help in the time of your preparation. wish this helps, and strong luck on your search for to this very worth occupation.
