You can go uphill or come downhill by the same road. Or the way up and the way down are one and the same. Heraclitus) of Ephesus (c.535 BC - 475 BC) was a Greek philosopher, known for his doctrine of change being central to the universe, and for establishing the term Logos in Western philosophy as meaning both the source and fundamental order of the Cosmos. In this quote he is showing how you feel change when going up or coming downhill, though the road is the same.

All is one because all is changing. Man's reason can't understand this because man thinks good will only lead to good, but in all actuality total good will only lead to total bad; this is what seperated him from Parmenides that believed only in reason. This is becuase the universal law states that everything that exists in nature is based on opposing opposites in balance. Good is only good because evil exists. All is one becuase all fits under the universal law.

The universe is one interpenetrating whole, constantly changing and non differentiated. We make the parts with our thoughts, but before we think them, it is all one.
