It may have something to do with the fact that most major events in the United States' history took place on the East Coast.

We live in a small town area that celebrates DAYLIGHT! Our Christmas decorations are elegant. Do you think it has to do with the lack of change of seasonal weather? They are too laid back? I am a nut for all holidays. We celebrate Veterans and all others. If the Vets were ignored, I'd be upset. I'm originally from just south of Chicago and where I live now (5 hrs away) things are totally different. Been here a long time and still am not used to it. Celebrate your heart out! Doni

Probably nostalgia. Most people are used to having a white christmas, or having it cold on christmas. Those who haven't experienced a white christmas, truly have missed out. Sometimes the atmosphere needs to be there, like the Macy's Parade. I marched in that parade back in 1986, and with all the streetside watchers, I was amazed at how festive thay were during and after the parade. That feeling just hung around until christmas was over.

We're just as patriotic, just a bit more laid back than the east coast people. To some of us native Californians you easterners seem pretty tightly wrapped.

Things in general. I'm in NY now (used to be CA) and almost every vehicle has a yellow ribbon. I won't see that in CA!
Maybe it's because I only live 30 miles from the place where we whopped those dern feriner Red Coats!

Well to be completely frank with you, I think that it has to do with the inate knowledge that tomorrow your home could be covered with fifteen feet of molten lava, or fall directly to the bottom of the sea. The eastern seaboard of the USA does not have that same fate predicted so strongly.

How does patriotism have anything to do with holiday decorations? Oh, right! Only Christians who do what gay, meth-snorting pedophile evangelical ministers tell them are real Americans... I forgot.
