When Mom and Dad get tired of cooking the holiday meal, it's time for the next generation to step up to the plate (er--roasting pan might be better). :-)

When the children are now all adults with families of their own. The holidays should be done on a rotating basis, having one family host one year and so forth. Or when the parents become too old, have health problems, or just don't have the energy or zeal to cook a hugh meal.

We started cooking dinner for our parents when I was about 16 or 17, my mom did do most of the shopping- but it was me and my older brother that did the cooking.
I mean when the kids are old enough to cook, and have helped you for years I think they should start taking more control over the meal.
Plus we make better food then my mom, she even admits it.

My sister and I are cooking thanksgiving dinner. I am 13 she is 15 Well we were supposed to but she spent the night at my cousins and my parents aren't here so now it is just me trying to cook and babysit my sisters. I think it will turn out ok though.

Basically: when the parents feel they no longer enjoy it. I think it would be ideal to wait until the majority of grandchildren are out of elementary school and a child is in a position to host, but really, the parents are not obligated to do it even one more time after the child if schooled and settled as an adult.

When they feel they are far to OLD to Cook anymore, Or when they get tired of Cooking. And when they feel like we deserve the torch which means when we can cook to their SATISFACTION

Parents enjoy the tradition and having the family at their house. You could volunteer--"Mom, I'd love to have dinner at my house this year. Could you help me with recipes?"
