Sir Winston Churchill owned several cats, his favourites being 'marmalade' cats or ginger toms. Some of his cats were Blackie, Jock, Margate and Mr Kat (also known as Mr Cat), these being black, ginger, black and black respectively but his great passion was for gingers. Bear in mind that Churchill lived to a very old age and cats last only around 16 years so during his lifetime he owned many including one or two strays that wandered in and stayed. He also had several residences with different cats at each location. He lived at Chartwell, the Churchill family home for over 40 years on and off where the cats had free rein with lots of gardens and woods to explore and also lived at 10 Downing Street and Chequers when he was Prime Minister, each house having it's own collection of cats.

A tabby named Jock.

He actually used to send servents to fetch the kitty and refused to eat without him present!
