Larry is a diminutive of Lazarus ( he who was raised from the dead --- making him exceedingly happy!!!!

I think it may refer to Larry who was one of the Three Stooges. He was so happy because he had such great friends, Curly and Moe, and all three were masters of slapstick comedy.
