After transiting the sewer system, waste goes to a treatment plant where bacteria attack the waste, reducing its size and volume. Remaining solid matter is separated out as sludge (which may be burned, dumped, or used as fertilizer), while the liquid part (now almost entirely water) may be sterilized with chlorine before being dumped into a suitable watercourse.

It goes into the sewage system.

Under your house all the drains you have in your house all meet into one sewage main and either go to the city sewage treatment center or a septic tank close by.

To be sure that gases do not back up into your house there is a turn of pipe that keeps some water blockage in the pipe, and a vent behind that where gases can rise up through to be vented on your roof to the atmoshere.

Hope that helps.
