I heard that they are just a myth as no-one ever sees them!

Chip shops have a rumbler to peel and wash the potatoes and a chipper to chip them.They dont do it by hand.

potatoes arnt peeled by hand. they go into something called a rumbler, the potatoes are churned inside and are peeled.

They either buy them in ready sliced or have a machine to do the peeling and slicing. God I wish I had one!

I thought I would chip in with an answer to this one, used to do it when i was fifteen, every saturday 9a.m. till 2 p.m. two dustbins full. 50p an hour. Great fun !!!!.

Its not a myth its just a rumbler. (a rumbler is what they use to peel potatoes).
