what do you think of this movie?

I have seen this movie probably 7 or 8 times in the past three years, wrote a paper about it for my college film class last semester, and basically regard it as my favorite movie of all time. Where to begin with the praise for this movie? Let's start with the acting. Dustin Hoffman is my favorite actor, and has been for a while. I'd watch him in any role. I was amazed at the way he was able to pull off this role. I've never seen a more deserved Oscar win. The vacant stare, the monotone voice, the screaming, it was unbelievable. Each time I watch it I am floored by his talent. Tom Cruise is also good, the villain of the story who undergoes such a subtle change that it's almost not visible until nearly the end. He is, however, perfectly suited for the flashy, egotistical character of Charlie, and I think he did a great job. The directing was unobtrusive and beautiful, for the most part just letting the action unfold, which is exactly the way it should have been done. It's a feel-good movie that does that and more, and I think nothing I've seen in the movies is as touching as the scene in the motel where Charlie discovers who "Rain Man" really is. I give this movie a 9.5 out of 10. Absolutely wonderful.

Wow I thought everyone saw that movie. Tom Cruise plays his usual smug a**hole cocky bas**ard and has an exotic car dealership that is quickly going under, at that same time, he finds out his estranged but wealthy father died but left him only an antique Buick (which he loved) but no other inheratance, which had been left to someone at a Mental health facility. Well he finds out that the person is (Dustin Hoffman) his brother that was waaaaayyyyy older than him, but is Autistic and left at the home. Charlie (Cruise) is pissed that he a) has a brother he never knew about and b) that the brother got the inheratance. So Charlie takes Ray out and about and learns of his counting ability, then thinks hey I am ganna exploit this guy for my benifit and head to vegas and get the money I need for my business. Well he does, and the "home" is pissed that he Kidnapped Ray and now wants custody of Ray. Well Its a character study and a great movie, It's funny and has tender moments It is worth renting, and I wont give away why its called Rain Man you will have to watch it and you should.

I like the movie. Dustin Hoffman does a good job with the role. I also like that they based his character on a real guy, a savant.
I used to teach special ed, and worked with many autistic kids, so it was fun comparing those experiences to the movie. It also happens that I am on the autistic spectrum myself, albeit on the far end and not a savant.

It is one of the best movies I ever saw, it is also a "treu" happpend story. Rain Man is inspired of one of the smartest guys on the planet right now

Absolutely wonderful!
The film's greatest achievement is successfully framing the plot around a character incapable of emotional development.
So fascinating, successful, sharp drama about emotionality, frustration, and the capacity we all have for surprising ourselves by changing.
