I know duct tape and masking tape will not work, and dont even suggest nails. Is there anything else that will keep them up there?

I think you should get Christmas lights that have hooks on them and stick them into the roof. If that doesn't work, try putting nail and/or screws into the hooks and put the lights into the roof. Good Luck!

Hold one end of the lights and get someone else to hold the other end. Rest during the day.
