Light is one of the most basic forms of energy.
Light can be transferred to many other kinds of energy, including thermal. That's why light can make you hot.
When you turn on a light, electricity passes through the bulb making it glow as a part of a complex system. It emits visible energy which we call light.
When the light hits an object, it transfers to thermal energy and is no longer visible.
The only reason light is always there when you turn on a switch is because it continuously creates new light to take place of the light that has been turned into thermal energy.
Hope this helped.

The light is the filament in side the bulb getting hot and glowing, When you switch the light off no electricity is passing through the bulb and the filament just stops glowing.

Your question can also be stated as 'Why sky turns dark when the sun sets?'
simple bcoz when there is no source, there is no light. just like when there is no vibration of the strings , there's no music.
when the light is turned off, the source i.e the filament of the bulb stop emitting light. so no light when the source is switched off.

Once photons ( light ) are no longer being emitted by a source, they
all finish hitting the wall or leaving the area and the lit area is then devoid of photons...And dark...Until some more photos are produced and start filling the dark area..
