Any cosmologist will tell you that there is NO center to our universe. Assuming that the Big Bang didn't happen inside some "thing" else--and there's not a shred of evidence that such was the case--then we're forced to say that the Big Bang happened everywhere at once; before it there was no 'where' or anything else.

Definition of Universe - All Energy and Matter existant.

Galaxies are moving away from each other in a trend. Think of it this way.

Get a ballon that is not filled with air. On it draw 10 dots far away from each other. These dots are galaxies.

Now fill the balloon with air. As it expands, the galaxies move away from the center, thus being far apart from each other. Therefore, yes it is expanding.

there was a center of the universe at one time, and we actually know the shape of the universe, unlike what the previous answer said, the big bang was a singularity. the universe is actually accellerating because there is an ititial repulsion force caused by space time. this is known more commonly as dark energy, my opinion of which i believe is in a quintessence rate of force, rather than a constant force. but scientists believe that it comprises nearly 70% of the state of energy in the universe, and matter as a form of energy in einstienian phyiscs being the most complex, form contain only 5% of the universe.
