How does one get a compression fracture of the vertabrae without falling ?

I have been having back pain and the doctor is checking for this .

Actually that's not all that hard to do. Heavy lifting and construction work can often cause it. I know a few who have done such a thing while sledding with their kids.....

Lifting something heavy can cause this as well.

something could fall on top of you or you could be trying to pick something heavy up
