I procrastinate so much! I cant control myself. I can never set academic goals and achieve them. Its hurting my grades and my wellbeing. I am able to easily set and accomplish athletic goals but not academic. Not only is my college education at stake, but if i do not reach my goal, my parents will refuse to pay the $3000 for me to travel to Ecuador and Galapagos ISlands over the summer. My current GPA is 3.4 and the goal is 3.75. I cant mamage myself. Any suggestions on where to start?

Don't set any long term goals until you learn not to procrastinate.

You should set a goal for yourself in each class every day.

For instance...Chem class....(hypothetically speaking of course)...set the goal that you will write at least 3 or more questions on what the prof was talking about.

That night for homework...set the goal that you will complete the reading...

If you want to set big goals for yourself...first set little goals that will be the key steps in achieving those big goals.

Most importantly...don't wait to set the little goals...get them out of the way...and then evolve from that.

The reason that many people procrastinate is that they are overwhelmed by the work they have to do or the tasks that they have to accomplish.

The best way to overcome procrastination is, first, to get organized. Use a daily planner (there are many computer programs for this, as well as the traditional paper).

Examine your assignments. Then assign priorities. If you have an English 101 paper due on Monday and an examination in Economics 101 tomorrow. Study economics.

Also, because I'm involved in many community activities, I find it helpful to have a month-at-a-glance calendar to remind me of what is due each week.

Among my other activities, I write a weekly newspaper column. On my wall, next to my computer monitor, I have three monthly calendars: October, November, and December.

I write the topic of my column in the Thursday box. A glance at the October calendar reminds of what I've written about recently. The November calendar shows that my city has its Christmas Parade of Lights on the 30th. So, when I write my column on the 28th (to be published on the 30th), I know that the parade will be my topic.

The December calendar reminds that Dec. 7 is Pearl Harbor Day. So, if I have anything to write about that topic, I'll have time to gather some research.

Finally, try not to think about everything you need to do. Look at your list of priorities, pick the most immediate one, and work on only that.

Hey! A 3.4 is awesome and tell you parents so. and that trying to get even higher is putiing too much pressure on you.
You can't be THAT bad of a procrastinator with 3.4 - who is telling you that? You have to be getting it done to certain extent.
Read "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens" by Sean Covey whether or not you are a teen. It teaches you to think of the consequences of procrastination ( does it cause you more stress? Effect other parts fo your life? - of course, it does) - so if you set aside time for homework - say at 5:00 or right after school think of how can enjoy the rest of your night, and will have done a better job on your homework with less time stress. Plan the things you want or need to get done in priority order, and do them that way - then the things that don't get done are less important. Get good habits.
Remember - keep in mind this will greatly lessen your stress and increase your effectiveness - but do not compromise it.
Enjoy your success.

It's always easier to complete something when you view it as a reward, and not an obligation. If you're working towards a good grade and a summer trip, that sounds like enough motivation to get you started.

Write down a list of everything you need to do, preferably in order of priority and importance, then set aside some time each day to concentrate on one thing at a time. Don't try to do everything at once. Take small breaks each time you've completed something, and then move on to the next issue. Work in an environment in which you won't be distracted or tempted by other activities. Force yourself to push aside all leisure time until you've achieved what you needed to do.

I'm not sure how you were trying to set your goals? I would suggest a schedule. Weekly schedule blocked out on a piece of paper. Start with your waking time - (example 8:00 am) make a line for each half hour up until you want to go to sleep (example 12:00 midnight) now you have a paper - seven lines down ( for days of the week) and 36 (or so) lines across for the hours of the day. Now - you block on (timebase) all the weekly appointments (classes you have to attend, meetings, job) any time appointments you must attend you block out. Now you can see what times in the day - during the week - that you have for study. I would make a schedule paper with all the necessary things on them and then make copies so I can fill in study hours and other activities that might change week to week. When you make a schedule you see your study habits in black and white. You can try to adjust your habits by making a schedule.

Well, how do you define educational goals? Sounds like my son, punished by his dad (who has residential custody) but not helped in figuring out what exactly is going wrong.
If you don't know specifically what the problems are, you are obviously not going to try all by your lonesome. Working hard is not working smart.
Tell your parents you may need an assessment. You don't know exactly why you can't seem to settle in and do your work, but there's something blocking you.
We don't procrastinate because we just don't feel like wiping out the easy tasks right now. We procrastinate because there's something buggin the heck out of us, but we can't pinpoint it long enough to fight it. The thing that is in your way is the first thing you need to know!
Good luck.

This helped me a lot with my procrastination. First, write down everything you need to do in the order it needs to be done. Then, sit down and start the first thing. When you finish it, reward yourself with a break and watch TV or something. Call your gf or do something short but rewarding. Then, sit down and due your next thing. Continue rewarding yourself with small breaks. Hope that helps!

So this is complicated to do something, once you're purely attempting to artwork via your strategies on my own. The physique in basic terms cares what is going directly to it on the 2nd. Then the strategies, with understand on your character -- you have diverse factors that could anticipate a minimum of something else relying on what's occurring externally. you're trapped between sure and no, because of the fact of those inner divisions. you place issues off in view which you don't recognize your self sufficient to realize that in case you could no longer do it now, what grant you having the flexibility to do it later? on the morrow will you be any diverse than you're actually and have the flexibility to convey to of entirety what you needed? lower back human beings have too plenty believe in themselves, without first coming up believe via self artwork. human beings ought to be honest, in the event that they are going to overcome out this ailment. 2) That they don't recognize what "now" is. there is not any destiny -- that's what human beings ought to stay via - that 10 minutes from now could desire to be now (wakeful-know-how exist in being). there is not any day after today, there is not any 5 minutes from now -- there is not any this night. there is in basic terms what i will do now -- 10 minutes from now, now will nonetheless be there. And if i could no longer make the main of now, in what human beings call "10 minutes in the past" then how am I to realize this 10 minutes later. 5 minutes from now's NOW. grab the day, because of the fact there could be no day day after today. Time is a length of strategies, each and every thing relax in the now, the previous and the destiny, they're development blocks in the now.
