We did a flame test in Chemistry. One of the follow up questions is : "All of the salts were compounds of nitrates. What effect did the nitrates have on the color emission? Explain."

Nitrates (and sometimes Sulfates) are used for flame tests. First you use the same ion (nitrate [NO3]) in all the tests to be consistent (control).

However, the reason you used Nitrates is because they give off NO color, that way you see the color emission of the metal only.

Get an "A".

im pretty sure nitrates let off the color green but no explanation so srry
