How it is possible for absolute rubbish to be on television almost 24/7. Even with over 200 channels i struggle to find something worth watching, i only get to watch 2 hours max of actual wanted programmes per day.

But i paid over a hundred pounds for my television
Then i am forced to pay £136 television licence
and work hard all week
Dont people like me deserve decent quality programmes??

I know everyone has different tastes but im not sure that these tv companies have properly done their research to eleminate the programmes that make you want to kill yourself just to get away from the dullness of it.

Lets start a campaign againt crap tv people, who's with me??

I'm with you
however...
I rarely watch TV for the reasons you so eloquently delineated here
I'd rather read, play on the puter, or play with my family
I do not pay for satellite
huge waste of money, IMHO

The most annoying thing is that 75% of programmes on sky are a repeat. We seem to pay more and more to watch the same bloody programmes again and again. If I worked it out most of the channels I watch in a day are on freeview I pay £40 a month for the chance to watch about 3 exclusive programmes! What a ******* liberty!!!!!! ( Catherine Tate show, Ive watched the same series 10 times in the last 6 months!!!!)

What an excellent question!

I came to the conclusion long ago that there is only a fixed amount of good quality TV around. The only effect of having a huge number of channels is to make the good stuff very hard to find.

People complain about TV. What they should be complaining about (and loudly) is BAD TV. Good TV is excellent - a cinema, a theatre, a school and a library in your living room.

Incidentally, as a corollory to your question; one of the reasons that you pay GBP136 for your licence is that the BBC is a hugely wasteful organisation. Another campaign here....?!

I suppose all the while people like us actually buy the tvs, and pay the license fee the tv companies will continue to ply us with the same rubbish by virtue of us giving them the impression we like the stuff they broadcast. Maybe we should stop buying the tvs, spend useful time on Yahoo answers, and just being sociable instead? Get a bottle of wine, call some friends round and smile. Lots better than wanting to kill yourself because of dull tv!

Oh yes, you have my vote!

It is boring isn't it.I had cable installed over a year ago,and set up the usual channels, except the sports, and i found i was watching the same thing over and over.
In August this year,my husband bought me my p.c as a birthday present,we cancelled the movie channels, which now pays for my broadband, and i enjoy spending time on here.
It's not fair that they keep on putting up the licence fee every year, and as you say,for pure crap.
Not everybody is a sport lover,or so called reality program lover,so why must we all suffer
You get the ball rolling on a campaign, and I'll be the first to sign it.

I'm with you ALL THE WAY! I hardly ever watch tv now, probably less hours than you. It's all a load of rubbish. We even get repeats of quiz shows like the Weakest Link, and repeats of repeats of repeats for goodness sake. The news is the same week on week (Iraq and global warming). We ought to have pay as you view. Got to be cheaper. How do we start a campaign though, that's the point.

There are lots of good documentaries and wildlife programmes. Also good comedy and sometimes decent films. But you are right, these pornography producers are pushing the boundaries all the time and even introducing soft porn to daytime tv. Channels 4 and 5 are the worst. We really should complain more.
I think if we did then we could put a stop to it.

It is abundantly obvious that a great many people agree that the T.V. channels deliver utter rubbish to us most of the time. If we think this, surely the owners and their families must think the same, so why do they do it? I cannot believe that we see the best talent in our country,or the best material.
One of the reasons I spend so much time on this site, is because the entertainment is better than the television.

the only quality channels are the discovery channel and national geographic.
i liked uk gold when it originally started because the programmes were all from years ago and liked to wallow in nostalgia.
nowadays since they scrapped the rule about no programme being less than 2 years old , you find that as soon as terrestrial have finished airing a programme it turns up on this channel sometimes within weeks. just another excuse to air constant repeats in my opinion.
so count me in 100%

I have Direct TV...it SUCKS!!!! same old crap all the time. Hey...try being up all night and watching TV. Just about everything....is PAID PROGRAMMING. (paid advertising)
JUNK....CRAP...BUY..BUY..BUY. I was laid up for awhile and watched TV a lot. during the day I watched TV in the morning...in the afternoon...same programs...in the evening..same damn thing!! Play the same friggin movies over and over again. I won't pay extra for HBO and movie channels cause it's the same with them. I think the same idiots who do the programming for the satellite channels are the related to the idiots who are producing the crap we see on TV/cable/satellite now.
