A protocol is a network language. There are many.
TCPIP = Nearly all network's today use it
IPX/SPX = One of the very best by Novell Networks

etc etc

In a nutshell any machine talking to another machine needs to be talking the same protocol.

Protocols are not compressed.

Protocol is an interface language scripture that the pc interfaces with another computer whatever the protocol is.

It can be compressed , if the protocol software programme such as adobe acrobat files are zip files and their compressional files that are ran through a protocol , protocol files are compressed through the web at any time when you extract a file thats a compressed file that needs unzipped thus meaning you need to use a programme thats embedded in a language scripture that conveys the scripture of the pcs language to interface the prompt of the programme and the file then it can compressed everyfile you download thats disguised in a format can be compressed...

If the scriptures are compressed then the language the the programme the person is using or the programmer that designed the programme scripture languages has advanced the format but html files can be compressed in any format, dependant on the way their wrote..

Also in games html files are encrypted within games today and you need to install them to work on your computer which means they are zipped and need a guide prompting installation anything on a computer is encrypted man you nearly made me laugh with your response their what an earth are you talking about novell for and stuff the guy is asking about html files...

Jesus what do you know...

I am not sure what you mean but there are certain network protocols that can compress data before sending them. If you are trying to do that then you need to find out the proper commands for that protocol.

For example, if you are using PPP then you can use the compress command.

I hope this helps.
