It is an offence to tamper with gas unless you are Corgi Registered. Would you really want to risk you and your families lives just to save money?

British Gas Cooker Installation

Buy an electric cooker and do it yourself. Do you know British Gas can fit a gas cooker but their fitters often are not corgi registered. The whole thing is a scam - part of the great British rip off culture that has been generated by the UK safety industry. I was safety officer for a very large UK corporation. I found most people involved in 'safety' were useless.

My son-in-law fitted my cooker a month ago and I'm still here. When connected, he checked the connection with washing up liquid (put on the bayonet connection) to make sure no bubbles appeared. My husband did our last cooker and that was in for 10 yrs. If in doubt and in the UK, get a Corgi registered fitter.

this is a problem is so expensive to have a gas cooker fitted around £60 if the pipe is already there i think so if you have to connect the pipe then by law you have to get a corgi registered fitter to do this if any thing goes wrong i know it is easy to fit a cooker as i can do it myself too your insurance will be invalid and if any dies as a result you will be liable sorry to sound so gloomy but that the law

Jeez it really annoys me when people give inaccurate info however well meaning. What rubbish about needing a corgi registered engineer - You can do it yourself because it is the bayonet fitting - its a simple connection made so that anyone can do it - same as fitting a lightbulb. We replaced our gas cooker (after our engineer condemned the grill). He explained the fitting to us and explained that it did not need him to come and do it. You are not making any alterations so just go ahead and do it and the only tools you need is your own hands.

You would only need an engineer if the gas pipe had been blanked off.

In our area, all gas connections must be made by a fitter. It's the law.

With a bayonet fitting, no problem, but make sure there is no debris in the female. Note that the cooker MUST have a 'Keep Chain' between cooker and wall to prevent the flexy pipe from being stressed.
