If they are words in a new language, I'd make flashcards -- those always work well for me.
Flashcards also work well for words in your native language that are new to you.
If you are trying to memorise a poem, the best way to do that is by repetition. Say a line, repeat it over and over, say another line, repeat that with the first one, etc. Soon you will know the whole poem!
Good luck! :)

Well, you're going to have to eat sleep and breathe these words during the next week. So flashcards is one good way to start. I've had to do this, and after making flash cards, then go through them a few times. Write down the ones that are consistently causing you problems. Do writing exercises: Write the word in sentences, write the meaning of the word. Knowing you have to do extra work with the word you don't know might be motivation for you just to memorize them.

Put them in a story you can remember, no matter how silly. For example if you had a bunch of unrelated words like:
green
paper
television
bear
whisky
you could make a story like
I took a walk through the forest. It was very GREEN and i remembered reading about it in the PAPER that morning after I had watched TELEVISION. There was a children's programme about a BEAR that drank a bottle of WHISKY.
No matter ho unreal the story you can do it.

Writing and speaking aloud gives the brain 2 different modes of recall. Write a list of the words and beside them a very brief meaning. Then read them aloud over and over in sets of 10.

Use mnemonic devices, like drawings. For instance, hirsute (pronounced "her-suit") is a word that means "hairy". To memorize it, I drew a picture of a women's suit and then drew hair all over it.

read and record it... then play it over and over again. its like memorizing a song. you did not memorize a song by heart, did you? you've just heard it in the radio over and over again and then you we're able to familiarize the lyrics. hope that works...
