Ok, let me recall my catechism...
Christmas is when Jesus was born, important, yes, but Easter was the day that he died for us (Christians) and our sins. Because Easter is the fulfillment of God giving us (Christians) his only begotten Son to suffer and die on the cross and then be resurrected so man can receive salvation. Birth of the Messiah or salvation for humankind...hmmm...
Also, because it coincides with the Jewish feast of Passover. The last supper is thought to have been a Passover Seder.
Also, Easter is an entire season in the church. Starts on Easter and ends with the Pentecost also related to a Jewish holiday. That is when the Holy Spirit descended on the Apostles. During this time, Jesus Ascended into heaven physically (see Ascension Thursday, or the Apostle's Creed). This is not an arbitrary date. Easter is the first Sunday after the first full moon of spring, based on the Hebrew calendar.
Easter is a truly religious holiday. A Christian Holiday based on Jewish Holidays and calendar. Remember, Christ was a Jewish carpenter.
Christmas of sorts, has been around since pagan times as a winter festival. This was the time for them (pagans) to celebrate because there was less work to do in the winter. Christians adopted it, attached it to the Season of Advent, or the beginning of the year (it starts four weeks prior to Christmas). A good time for a feast to celebrated birth, the beginning if the year no?! This way, if we (Christians) have a major celebration at the same time that they (pagans) are celebrating, conversion will be considerably easier.
Christmas celebrates the birth of a prophet. One of many, acknowledged by many religions as a great man. Easter makes him the Messiah for all Christians. It is on what we (Christians) base their whole doctrine.

I don't know why people would say that.
Christmas is the most important holiday of the year. It always occurs on the 25th of December
Where as Easter only occurs 7 weeks after Ash Wednesday.
Could be March, could be April when Easter rolls around.

because on easter Jesus resurected ..he died for our sins which is the main reason he came into the world..to save us.
Christmas is also important but nos as much... youre right, if jesus had not been born then there would be no easter but also, it would have been most important if he had just come to earth just as any prophet did ..his mission was more important though ..easter and stuff
plus if your son died and then resurected, wouldnt the day of his resurection be the best day ever??
:)

Easter is the fulfillment of the promise of Christmas. They are both important, but Easter is the ultimate.

Easter is he celebration of our salvation, and Jesus Christ is the SAVIOR. If this act of savation did not take place the birth (Christmas) would not have any meaning. How you are born is accident, how you die is achievement, therefore worth celebrating. Therefore easter is more important than Christmas.

In a way, Easter is the base on which most Christian's put their doctrine. He was born of the Father, but because He chose to die for us of His own free will, that makes it more important. Just like your life- everyone celebrates your birthday, but they will honour the greatest thing you ever do for someone else. Well, He did the greatest thing for everyones life- all that were, that are, and that will be.
