It happens to me all the time. People send me cards for my birthday for example but I never receive them because somebody at Royal Mail is opening them to see if there is money inside and then obviously throwing the cards away! I keep reporting this happening but it makes no difference. Why aren't there stricter rules and what gives these people the right to take other people's mail anyway?

The people whom I have been expecting cards from send to me every year and this has mainly been happening the last two years and it seems to be getting worse. I have lived in my current area for about 5 years now and the odd one went missing. Now it's just terrible. It was my birthday on Tuesday and 5 cards from people who always send haven't turned up. I've checked and they were sent Monday. A few less didn't turn up last year - not all the same people though. My mum's Easter card never turned up this year! My friends and family don't lie to me. If they hadn't sent a card they would tell me straight.

My friends and family don't lie and why would they when they've been sending for years? They don't all know each other so please don't keep saying they might be lying because that really is not the case. My nan for example is 99 years old and she would not do that or anyone else.

Used to happen to me a lot. Unfortunately you can't prove it. One time they delivered it in one of those bags that say your mail has been damaged, but with a really obvious slit down one side, it was fairly obvious to me who'd done the damaging. From now on I ask people who are going to send me cards to send them in a plain brown envelope. That way it's less obvious in the post.

i was at a training day with royal mail last week, for an xmas job.
This is the reason why they ask the sender to send via recorded delivery, then there is no possible way that it can go walk about. There is only a few dishonest royal mail workers 98.9% of mail does reach its destination. So a bit weird how your senders mail keeps going missing, the must be pulling ur chain.
And when it is reported, Royal mail security team find out where it went. and the person who perhaps stole it would be found out and would go down, as its against the law to do this.

Anybody caught stealing at Royal Mail is dealt with using the full force of the law. anybody "suspected" of stealing, IE, if someone reports missing expected mail, then, those responsible for sorting or delivering for that area, is put on surveillance, so, don't just moan about it, let Royal Mail know and give them a chance to deal with it.

royal mail wouldnt open the cards and then throw them away as they have a scanner that can see inside the envelopes.
so if there was no money in them they wouldnt open them!!
there are a few horrible royal mail workers who scan certain letters to see if there is anything in there that they can take but most are nice.
also letters go through huge machines and sometimes get ripped up so there is no way of knowing who it belonged to or what was in there

Not just cards and letters. Parcels for abroad often never get there, whether it's Royal Mail or the overseas country I don't know. Parcel disappearances: to Spain, Holland, New Zealand, USofA and Australia have been annoying and upsetting. No-one ever knows anything about it or wants to know if not expensively "registered"/insured (usually uneconomic for children's inexpensive birthday presents.etc). If they ignore your protests you'll go away, it seems.

That happened to me with my mail, and it comes from the post office.
Postal inspector did nothing, as expected.
However, you can leave Royal Mail and go to another mail service in addition to reporting them to the FBI. Opening other people's mail is a federal offense.

The only thing I could suggest was having the proof of posting reciept. I'm a seller on ebay and I always keep the proof of posting. If you have a reciept you can use it to get compensation.

There aren't stricter rules because you would never be able to prove it.
