Hi

I don't know why the above answer is talking about TSA, since you are flying from India to Australia and TSA is an American agency. Sometimes Americans think everything is about them.

All the information about hand luggage you need (including wight and size restrictions and prohibited items) can be found at this website:
http://www.airindia.com/page.asp?pageid=171

Please remember that Australian Customs are very strict, so you have to be careful about what will be allowed in at Melbourne Airport. This site will help you, it is the International Arrivals site for Melbourne Airport:

Enjoy your time in Australia!

All sorts of eatables are not permitted, especially fruits, as they are very particular about it. If ur on some kind of medication please declare it before the customs find them....i think regular medicines are allowed. U cannot carry juices, any kind of pulses, grains, masalas ( they r strictly no no), any explosive chemicals, n thereon. And last but not the least don't carry any plantations, n wooden articles as it won't be allowed, tuck all those cosmetic items even lip balms in ur baggage since u cannot take it in the flight and declare everything what ever ur carrying...it will make life much easeir.

Make Your Trip Better Using 3-1-1
3 –1–1 for carry-ons = 3 ounce bottle or less; 1 quart-sized, clear, plastic, zip-top bag; 1 bag per passenger placed in screening bin. One-quart bag per person limits the total liquid volume each traveler can bring. 3 oz. container size is a security measure.

Consolidate bottles into one bag and X-ray separately to speed screening.

Be prepared. Each time TSA searches a carry-on it slows down the line. Practicing 3-1-1 will ensure a faster and easier checkpoint experience.

3-1-1 is for short trips. If in doubt, put your liquids in checked luggage.

Declare larger liquids. Prescription medications, baby formula and milk are allowed in quantities exceeding three ounces and are not required to be in the zip-top bag. Declare these items for inspection at the checkpoint.

Come early and be patient. Heavy travel volumes and the enhanced security process may mean longer lines at security checkpoints.

TSA working with our partners. TSA works with airlines and airports to anticipate peak traffic and be ready for the traveling public.
