I think you usually wait until they are at least one year. There is some protiens in cows milk that babies are not ready to digest until then.

The doctor said that they should be off formula by their first birthday. They say the same thing about the bottle. You should slowly transition to milk. The first week divide the milk and formula, use 75% formula and 25% milk. The next week do, 50/50. The following week do, 25% formula and 75% milk. By the fourth week you'll be doing 100% milk.

I think if you are talking about totally weaning a baby from breastmilk or formula it is best to wait until two years or older.
At one year only 25% of their nutrition should be coming from solids and breastmilk/formula is so much easier to digest and more nutritious.
However at about a year you can begin offering dairy such as yogurt and cheese. And give whole milk once in awhile.

The only concern with giving it too young is food sensitivity. Supposedly you can sensitize kids to dairy if you give milk under 1 year. I don't have such sensitivities in my family so I figure it's not a big risk for my daughter. I'm starting small amounts at six months. You do it at your own risk, as everything.
Both my mom and my husband's mom were giving us whole cow milk at that age. My mother in law actually brags that she weaned my sister in law "to milk in a cup" at six months, straight from the breast. This isn't proof that it's okay for your kid, but I think the allergy business is hysteria in some cases. I'll save my anxiety for real safety issues. If I worried about allergies as much as they tell you to, I'd lose all my hair.

Im a nanny and I would recomend 12 months but at that time slowly introduce it by half formula half whole milk and then slowly reduce the formla amount, if you find your baby is having any kind of reaction stop the whole milk and see your doctor. good luck!

Pediatritians reccomend waiting until 1 year old before giving cow's milk, to reduce the chances of an allergic reaction.

umm, jeez i cant remember exactly i think it was around 11-12 months but your doctor will tell you when to start giving the baby whole milk (Homogenized) is best for the baby of course but the best and safest thing would be to discuss this with the babys doctor!!
