Is it frowned upon, by other women, to be a wife and mother? Or to have a feminine career such as hairdresser or nurse? I think men fantasize about the classic good wife of the days of yore...

I think those that can devote themselves to raising and supporting our future leaders are fortunate. I think kids today are left to their own devices much too early so the family can have 2 suv's, DVDs, TVs, computers in every room, and eat out every night.
I wanted a career because I chose not to have children and I also want to be independent.

I think it is almost an economic necessity in many parts of the United States to have two working partners in a marriage in order to get by financially. It is not frowned on at all though for a woman to forego a career out of the home and be a full time wife and mother. Some people are fully able to have it all and have both a career and spend quality time with their children. It is a question of finding balance and meaning and having all family members willing to work together to keep the family healthy, growing and intact.

lol. are you Welsh? don't think it's frowned upon, most women are wives and mothers eventually. i think society places a huge demand on women to be 'superwoman'. go to work, raise the kids, take care of the household, organise the finances, live up to their duties as a wife....etc. men can 'fantasize' all they want, there is NO such thing as the 'classic' good wife, a marriage is a partnership. both should be treated equally and fairly.

No. Women are not pressured to have a career. :-) Most women who choose a career or a profession do it by choice. Just as women who choose to stay-at-home to raise a family do it by choice.

Not all men fantasize about the "traditional family". Some actually prefer a woman with a career/profession. Those men who prefer a "traditional wife" should seek her out rather than trying to change a "professional/career woman". :-) Both will be much happier.

I am sure many women do. I don't although I am a woman. I never expect too much from myself.
