It could be 2 things that cause a belt to squeal. The first one is, the belt is loose, this is due to the belt stretching over time. You should check the deflection in the belt, by pressing on the belt at a half way point, and measuring how far the belt moves downward. The downward movement should not be more than a half inch. If it is you have to tighten the belt.
The second reason, is as the belt goes around the pulley, it developes a coating, which is caused glazed, which tends to make the belt slip a little.

The rubber is coming off the belt and sticking to the pulley's. This causes the rubber in the pulley to squeal against the rubber in the belt. It is caused by heat and friction. Usually from either having to loose or too tight of a belt setting or tension. Herbert West III west.herb@yahoo.com

Squealing fan belts are aggravating. If the belts are tight and still make noise, try buffing the inside of the pulley grooves with a green Scothbrite® pad. The abrasive pad gives the fan belt a more positive surface and should eliminate the noise. It’s also a more permanent solution than just shooting the belts with WD-40.

your battery is knackered, or your doing lots of short stop staart trips... the belt onlt squeals when the alternator is under load and maybe could do with tightening a mill or five.
starting, and stop start driving kill your battery, and now, most of its done in darkness, with lights heaters and everything else working... you arent driving far enough to recharge the battery... this becomes evident when the battery is over 3yrs old... and your belt starts squealing... it may just be a loose belt..but when was it ever the easy cheap option?

winters here ,and it has a habit of letting you know there are problems,it can be two things, worn belt or damp, causing the belt to slacken, this is usually a sign to change it,if you are on a budget then tighten the belt by adjusting the rellevant pully,or if you cannot do that a drop of oil from the dipstick will temporarily stop the noise ,either way other ancillaries will break down if you do not change it soon

check the belt tension by pressing the belt with your thumb mid way between the belt pulleys you should get about a half inch deflection any more or less indicates incorrect tension. The problem could also be caused by lack of lubrication in the water pump bearings get a mechanic to check this out as a water pump failure can cause a lot of expensive damage.

If you look at your fan belt you will see the inside part of the belt which touches the pulley has gone smooth and probably shinny,,get a new belt fitted and problem solved..

If the tension is ok then its just the rubber on the wheel . get the oil dip stick and just put a bit of oil on the fan belt that will stop it

The air gets trapped on the segments of the belt and if slowed down would sound like a fart, Basically that's the answers.
But A quick remedy is to squirt WD40 on it but it dint last long.
Best to have it replaced.
Mine makes a noise but it don't hurt anything so I ain't bothered, It may go when it gets warm, so don't worry.
