"cheap place to stay, December 30th until the 2nd, in Las Vegas"
That place doesn't exist...The room rates in LV from the 29th until the 1st range from ridiculous to obscene...The 30th and 31st are going to be very expensive, the rates will fall dramatically on the 1st....
these are the best travel sites for LV room rates

I wish I had some good news for you, I know of all kinds of great LV deals from now until December 29th...But, unless you know someone(your casino host?) who can take care of you, the news is not good...NYE is the most expensive weekend in LV...
Sam's Town would be an option if you have a car, Sam's Town normally has a bus which runs to several locations on the strip but I don't know what the situation will be on NYE...The Stratosphere which anchors the North end of the strip, might be the best choice if you want to stay within walking distance of all the festivities...I did notice that the Fiesta Henderson had some of the best rates(tripres.com) I don't know what your travel situation is..IOW how would you get to and from the hotel and strip...The Fiesta is a nice place, if you have a way to get around...

Good luck with the room. Everything is fine and affordable until the 31. Than they jack the rates up thru the roof (average on the strip will be around $500). So if you can, book your stay at one place the entire week for the best deal.
The nice thing is that on New Years, the buses are free. The strip is closed off to traffic at 5pm and filled in with 300,000 drunks.
Be safe, smart and aware if you go down on the strip.

the best value on the strip would be the Flamingo. The cheapest on the strip is circus circus probably.
Away from the strip would be one of multiple cheap off strip places. These are good because cabs can take you to and from the strip. As long as you look these up and they suite your needs they are okay. They include The Orleans and multiple hotel chain names.
Downtown hotels (have bus service to strip): Golden Nugget and Stratosphere, Super 8, and tons of others on Fremont street.

Are you going to Las Vegas?...Well, you can try with "Motel 6", it's cheap and very very good. I used to stay there when I went to Vegas. Don't actually know what "in the strip" means, but this motel is pretty close to the various Hotels, really, you'll find it good if you'll go there!...and...Remember:That's the sin city and what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas!...

We took a cheap vacation there and stayed at Terrible's. (It's not as bad as the name sounds) It's a few blocks off the strip, has a casino, and tons of food. The rooms are just like your average hotel room, not fancy but not a slum. And there are cabs galore to get anywhere you want. It was a lot of fun.
