My suggestion would be to take the cartridge back, if a cartridge does not work upon install this cartridge will continue to be trouble. What happens is the ink dries in the print nozzles, this means that the cartridge has to be at least four months old.

It really depends upon what printer you have, if you have an HP, Lexmark or a canon that takes a PG-40, and Cli-41 cartridge it will be an issue with the cartridge itself.

However if you have an epson, brother or any canon that takes ink tanks the issue could be the printer if:

1. You haven't used the printer in more than a month
2. one or more of the other ink tanks is empty.
3. You are using an aftermarket, not name brand cartridge.

Try running a couple prin head cleanings, your manual should tell you how to do this. If this fails to show improvement try to exchange the cartridge.

And How much did you spend on this new cartridge? Wouldn't it be more cost effective to return the cartridge and buy a new printer? The last printer I purchased was a Lexmark and it cost me $20 (U.S.). It would have cost me $40 and change to replace the cartridges in my old printer...

I see that the new cartridge is unable to print.

The issue you are experiencing is may be due to the improper communication between the printer cradle and the cartridge contacts or may be due to the defective cartridge.

I suggest you to visit the following web site and follow the instructions to clean the cartridge contacts manually.

However, If the issue persists then this could be due to the defective cartridge. Please replace the cartridge from where you have purchased.
