im using the Serv-U program
and have added an ftp through the 'toolbox->application sharing' option in the Bt home hub menu. The settings are port 21-21 translates to 21-21

If your connection includes a firewall or router, you'll have to forward ports 20 and 21 to the FTP server machine's internal IP address.

You'll also need a dynamic DNS service so that you can find the server by name since your IP address will change frequently. Try http://www.dyndns.org for that.
