My pick up was rear ended and as a result the frame was bent down probably 1 inch and only on one side. Should I take it to a frame shop and have it straightened or should I find an identical piece and cut out the bad piece keeping in mind a good fit and good welds, weld a new piece in?? This is a 95 chevy 4x4 short box regular cab. The frame is bent right under where the cab and bed come together, pass. side. It is my winter beater so I dont really want to spend a bunch. Any ideas?

check with the frame shop. It won't likely be very expensive. I would avoid cutting and welding unless this beater is not worth much. If it really is a do it yourself fix, you may be able to cut just part way through the frame and straighten it then weld on box plates to finish the repair. We did that with a jeep once. It is not that hard to do if you are a good with a welder.

DId the guy that hit you not have insurance or are you in a no-fault state? In Indiana if you get rear ended the guy that hits you pays...

The frame shop can fix this easy.
Don't even think about cutting and welding it.

take it to a shop, the poor guy with the omni had no frame to start with, you do, shop around, somebody should be able to get it straight enough to pass inspection, good luck

ok i would first have the alignment checked if the alignment is not of then your ok, if the alignment is off then it should get repaired. you can not usually just cut part of the frame up and replace it because it would weeken the frame - causing more damage.
