I have a neighbor that I always hang out with. We had talked about Thanksgiving dinner and how his mom was going to be out of town, so he really didn't have any plans.

I live alone, and I told him, hey, why don't you just come over here for Thanksgiving. (I like to make a turkey even if it's just me, because I don't want to forget how to do it).

He said sure, that sounded great. (He's come over for dinner before so it's not like he's scared of my cooking). I told him we'd eat about 5'ish.

Needless to say, I bought all the groceries and stuff. He comes over to my house at 6 o'clock last night and told me "Oh, well, I can't make Thanksgiving, I've got something else to do." No "I'm sorry I can't make it", no reason, no nothing.

Is it wrong that I'm pissed off about this? It's not like I'm crushed that he's not coming over, but I just think it's common courtesy to not bail out on someone at the last minute.

What do you guys think?

I'm not looking for the "reason" why he's not coming over, frankly I don't give a tiny rat's a-s-s, but I think a simple apology wouldn't be out of line.

Ok -- if someone invited me over for Thanksgiving dinner, and I accepted that invitation -- it is common courtesy to NOT cancel at the last minute and do something else --

So yes, it is RUDE -- and maybe you need to rethink inviting him over in the future -- Given that you have a different idea of courtesy than he does (and his last-minute cancelling is a bug HINT that he thinks differently!) it is something that even if you do like him, could cause problems in the future.

SO ... by all means -- enjoy your Thanksgiving, but do try to expand your social circle and invite others that you trust to share your feast with you in future years.

You have every right to be ticked-off. It was very rude of him to back out at the last minute without giving a very good reason. And at least he should have said he was "Sorry". Next time you see him, kick him in the BUTT. LOL

wow! oh my god that's so rude-I cant believe someone would do that. you're definitely right to be pissed off-I would have put that whole uncooked turkey in his mouth and wired his jaw shut! he could have at least apologised or given a decent explanation...dont let it ruin your Thanksgiving and just forget about him. next time he wants to chat ignore him. people shouldnt screw you around like that

It's not worth it.

Enjoy the food you bought, most will freeze, have a good time without him. Let him do what he needs to do.

I can't stand when people require a reason. If it was your business he'd tell you. If it's not your business he shouldn't be required to.

It's not like the meal was made.

Fix him a plate to eat later, and enjoy your time alone and leave him alone.

Don't waste your time and energy being upset. He doesn't care. :Learn from it. Dump him as a friend and never, ever invite him or go with him anywhere again.

I'll give the guy credit, at least he notified you the night before. He could have been a real jerk and told you today instead.
