Journal writing, while beneficial, will not improve writing skill. If you are making spelling or grammatical mistakes, they will continue to be made. Reading is one thing that will help much.

I have also found that taking writing classes and having your work critiqued is a very valuable tool to improve writing skill. I would recommend taking one of these classes and increase the time spent with good authors (reading their work). You will be surprised at the results.

Good luck and enjoy the journey.

I like to keep a journal, sometimes it may come out like a poem. Other times I might write down what happened that day. Or write about someone or something that impacted my life in a positive way...
I think it is a great idea for anyone ....

To be honest with you i find that reading a lot improves your writing skills.
I think it is a good idea to keep a journal to practice your writing.
You may see it improve over time.
You could just write anything that you think is interesting.
I would suggest it would be best to try and get good ideas and see how words can be put together (obviously don't copy) as well as trying to adopt a professional style.

Writing regularly will help you to develop a facility for putting your thoughts and feelings into words in coherent sentences. Of course, you can keep making the same mistakes, but you're likely to make some strides as you try to find the words or metaphors to capture what you want to say. I agree that writing classes and critique groups will further help your writing skills.
Additionally, writing truthfully about your deepest feelings and concerns helps your mental and physical health.
