Get your hands off OF your brother, this instant!" "Take the books off OF the couch!"

Where are you from?

In Ohio, we add the OF. You?

Please do not lecture me on proper grammar; I'm referring to the vernacular here :-))

panamm, I'm not that observant. My ex, who is a Brit, used to mock me about this. Never thought about it before that. :-)) Thanks, though...

c'mon now, you know darn well the cat won't get OFF the table until he's ready to, no matter what you say to him.

i don't use the "OF". takes too long. most of my language habits are upper midwestern (duluth, minnesota), but i have heard both usages ("OF" and no "OF") there.

of course, there's also the new york version, halfway between the two: "get your hands offa my pizza, ya know"?

I ususally say 'off'. I'm living in Texas (for a long time now) but raised in Michigan. Usually my language deteriorates shortly thereafter into something akin to cussing directly at the cat in language that would make a sailor blush.

I would say "off the table"...
We don't have a cat so it's usually "get your nasty feet off the table"
