Yes...but it does make a WORLD of difference!!! You can actually get some sleep through contractions with an epidural. Pushing anything bigger than a walnut through an opening the size of a garden hose is gonna hurt!! But, in comparison...thank god for the EPIDURAL MAN!
With the epidural, you don't feel the contractions so much...but you do feel the pressure.
Good luck and Congrats!

It does not make any sense on why women want to have the baby without a epidural, and then call it a natural birth. women who use the epidural still have natural child births but they are smarter by taking pain medication and they can enjoy the birth process much better. I know because i was forced to go through the contractions for so long before i even gotten the epidural and i was so miserable and in major pain and after i got the epidural i was so happy felt great and got to enjoy the birth.

Chill out and take a breath. You have to understand that when they put the epidural in they have to get it in a very small spot. If they miss the mark by a little you will either feel some pain or you will feel nothing. I had an epidural with my first once i reached 4 cm and i couldn't feel a thing but i was still able to move my legs and everything but with my second i made it to 7 cm before asking for a epidural and again i couldn't feel anything but i couldn't move the lower part of my body by myself. Even when i was pushing i didn't feel pain, just a desire to push. If you're scared get one, your first delivery seems to be the hardest, just remember to relax, your baby is worth all the pain in the world weather you experience any or not.

I never had an epidural myself but two of my daughters did in the last couple of years and they both said they would never go through it again. First, the whole idea scared them a little and second, it did little to ease the pain. On the flip side, my sister had it and never felt a thing. Guess it depends on the anaetheologist and how well you take to anesthesia. Good luck.

I felt the contractions before getting my epidural but after they gave it to me I felt NOTHING!!! They keep it running through the tube to your back and you also get a little button that you can push every 15 minutes to give you a lil more..I was so frozen that I couldn't even feel my contractions to push or worse yet them taking my daughter out with forceps..so to answer your question "NO" I didn't feel a thing and I would recommend it to everybody :) Good luck

just depends, some women have been known to only have be numbed on the one side..so you feel all the pain on one side, which would be worse to me. Or you can have certain reaction to the epidural, such as extreme shivering or itching..Or your epidural can do what it needs to do and you are so numb that you can't feel your body to push properly, therefore sometimed ending up in C-section.

i couldnt tell you about the epidural i know alot of mothers sware by it, but i delivered my first born natural no drugs, and i am going to deliver my child which i am pregnant with now (31 weeks pregnant) natural assuming all goes well during the last couple months... It hurt to deliver natural, but you can hardly feel the pain after the head comes out, and at the end you cant even feel anything, your just numb, and its all worth it!!

well they usually make you labor until you hit atleast 6 cem before they give you an EPI.. but the contractions at at stage 1 through 4 arent really bad kinda like period cramps after that they get stronger.... If you have EPI you feel no pain jut pressure in your stomach..... some women have trouble pushing because they are unable to feel the contraction to push...... An it also depends on how much they give you.... but you will feel no pain and should go away about 10 or 15 mins after you give birth....

ABSOLUTELY! No really I was being funny, having the baby hurts regardless, but it's not as bad as you are anticipating. Fear is what makes it hurt because we are tense, and the fact you are passing a thanksgiving turkey between your legs. (another joke) But really the pain stops as soon as the baby is out and you get the girt of a baby. Enjoy the pain, it's like an investment.
