It's very difficult to hot wire a car these days. Most cars have coded keys of some kind. Some have resistor chips.
Alot of the newer cars have transmitters embedded into the keys. If you try to start a car with the wrong key or bypass the key lock cylinder, the engine's computer will soon recognize something is wrong and shut down the fuel or starting system. The computer has to see a valid password signal. If not, then you are walking home! The things you see on television where a guy jumps in a car and finds a couple of wires under the dash that he connectes together to steal a car is mostly a Hollywood invention. Thieves used to break open the steering columns on older cars to access the linkage connecting the lock cylinder to the ignition switch, but that doesn't really work on new cars.

i swear i see this question on here almost as much as "what car should i buy?" ....cut all the wires under your dash and keep hooking them to eachother till it starts...or catches on fire...either way, youre set..cause insureance payoff will be enough to get another car anyway.
