I want to get a real Christmas tree this year (it's been a long time 'cuz my sister is allergic, but she's not living with me anymore), but I have no idea how early I can buy one without worrying about it drying out before Christmas. Any help?

What we do, is get one, at the earliest 3 weeks before christmas. Trees last a long time, but if you get it too early, by christmas the needles will still be green, but they will be stiff and no where near as soft as they used to be. If your getting one soon, what my family allways does, is water it. every morning and afternoon around 3 or 4 hours before going to bed, check the water level, 1.5 inches above the bottem is when it should be watered again. Trees usually dirnk about hmm i would say 4-6 cups of water a day. maybe more. Another tip that is said to help keep the trees happy is put an asprin in the water.
Good luck with the tree! Hope you Christmas goes well! :)

I'm not a Christmas tree expert, but I know that the key to keeping your tree as fresh as possible, for as long as possible, is proper watering, which a knowledgeable person at the Christmas tree lot should be able to advise you of. Not only does proper watering keep your tree from drying out, it also helps prevent Christmas tree fires.

I read an article the other day that said some trees drink much more water than others (sorry, don't remember the type, maybe the Noble Fir). Just to be sure, I would research watering tips and such online before you head out to purchase your tree. I think a good quality tree, given proper care and watering as soon as you get it home, should last three weeks to a month, so you should be able to buy a tree now and have it last through Christmas.

Merry Christmas! And Happy Thanksgiving! : )

You can get one now, but make sure you get the green stuff to keep in the water or get a live one with the root ball on it and plant it outside after christmas. Either way, make sure to check the water daily and it should make it until christmas just fine.
