what are the problems accoation with a bad air filter?

Poor proformance, the engine running a little on the hot side, doesn't have that get up and go it used to have. Sometimes even starting problems. Now this all depends on what type it it, is it fuel injected, or a carb. If you have a carb, then you would have a very dirty intake.

Check the compression release cable.This is sometimes referred to as a jake break

the engine will not develop its maximum power and you will consume more fuel trying to get more power (it will run rich).will also carbon things up more possibly fouling out spark plugs etc.

Also it'll be running rich and foul the spark plug.
