Im 13 and i just bought a laptop 2 months ago. Toshiba sattelites are great! They come with alot of memory and are very cheap. I play sims on mine and also use aim. The only bad thing is the battery only lasts 2 hours. And you only get Microsoft Office for 60 days then you have to buy it.

HP has a lot of really nice deals with laptops.
I bought one a month ago with full max 2 GB RAM, 120 GB hard drive for just 1200. They have more models with less ram and disk space for as little as 500 dollars i have seen online. go to aol.com and they have a link on the front page i think, advertising hp laptops. also, check out your nearest best buy or circuit city or whatever for great deals.
good luck!!

ps. 2 gb RAM is AMAZING for sims2...i know...before my computer only had 256 mb ram and it was really SLOW. Try to get as much ram as you can, because it will make the quality and performance of the game much better. I would say opt for at least 512 mb to 1 gb at the minimum, if she really wants to have the sims2 experience. :)

There are alot of bargain laptops out there. I am glad that you mentioned what you are using it for, because most people don't say riught away about that.
The company's brand I can suggest are: Dell, Tosiba, NEC, IBM, Acer.
