You're absolutely right women "are suppose to look like women not straight up and down like a man."
It's sad that women feel they have to starve themselves to fit the media's sick distorted image of what a woman is supposed to look like.
And that media image is so unrealistic - according to the fashion designers and the TV commercials, a woman is supposed to look like an 8 year old girl with breast implants!
No curves (except for an impossibly large chest), visible rib cage, hip bones sticking out like coathangers and a general half starved look, like she just got out of a refugee camp.
I don't know any man who thinks that look is attractive (except for fashion designers and pedophile child molesters!)
Every real man agrees - REAL WOMEN HAVE CURVES
Women are maternal life givers, and they are supposed to be fat, curvy, bouncy and happy - naturally big breasts (no silicone!), big hips, big butt, curvy waist, that coke bottle or hourglass look that a healthy adult woman is supposed to have
That look is sexy as hell, and that is what men are actually attracted to!
Just look at porn - the women there have curves (unlike the walking scarecrows in the womens fashion magazines!)
TV, the fashion industry and the magazines have really screwed up women's heads.. they present this unrealistic ideal of what a woman is supposed to look like, and women starve themselves to meet that media image.
it's sad, and it's sick..
And even the fashion designers have begun to realize it
When they had the big Bryant Park Fashion Week fashion show here in New York earlier this year (it's the biggest fashion show in the world) they were seriously considering imposing a minimum weight for the models, since some of them are so damned thin now it's sick!
Women need to realize, real women are supposed to have curves! Ignore what the designers and the media say!

It is frightening! I have even heard girl in 3rd grade talk about their weight.
I talk to my teen about how you only have one body and that an evovled women stands above peer pressure. I have made it a must for her to read alot and to watch the news.
When they brought the story about the model who died, its was my daughter who brought it to my attention. Her reaction was "What a waste! Why are women so stupid?"
A big problem are the designers. Is it not easier to dress up a toothpick then a mrs patatoe? Fashion is where you make a normall size women look fantastik not a toothpick.
And what about us normall women? Dont we buy magazines? Maybe we have to stop buying the ones where the show anorexic women! Instead of cosmopolitan we should be buy outdoor magazines!
We have to start explaining to our girls that you have to be prepared for the worst. And you will need more than a skinny body to survive. You need wisdom, thats the only thing that will keep above all others. A little self defence is also good nowadays.
For thousands of years, women have died to achieve more rights for us. Have we shown ourselves worthy of such great sacrifices?!?
Its a shame that young girls wish to become famous rather then lawyers doctors or even president.
I guess at the moment the only thing we can do you to speak to those in our surroundings, and hope that we atleast reach one person. Then maybe one day we will be worthy.
Just a thought

What a refreshing comment for this venue. Instead of some idiotic observation you have pinpointed what this forum should actually be addressing. You have summed it up well.
Women are socialized to believe that they are not slim, enough, white enough or pretty enough. Yet when you look at the pictures in ads it is clear to see that a lot of touching up takes place to make these people look perfect. All women are made beautiful and we are in the image of God and I know she doesn't make mistakes. We need to take a stand with our sisters and stop buying into all this advertisement that states a women needs to pile on makeup and look unhealthy to be beautiful. I love the Dove web site that acknowledges true beauty and the interactive site for mothers and daughters to increase self esteem is truly a blessing to any mom trying to explain what beauty if to a small girl. You should continue advocating and send off a few letters to some of these companies stating that you refuse to buy their products, have your girlfriends add their signatures and make it into a mini petition, Boycott them until they begin to picture women normally and to celebrate the diversity of this world instead of focusing on colonialism. Thanks and God bless.

THANKYOU! I completly agree. Stick thin is absolutly unhealthy. A true women has curves. I myself am curvy. My boyfriend says he hates really skinny girls. Nothing to grab onto and he says he gets bruises from hitting thier bones. EW.
I love curvy women. The average size women in North America is a size 14! I'm about there and even Marilyn Monroe was once a size 14....coinsendence...not likely!

Well, Indians are Asian. So are middle easterners. I guess you were talking about the East Asian girls, though. For these purposes we can put middle easterners and Indians as "west Asians" and Japanese, Chinese, etc as "east Asian". Anyway, in my opinion: Best looking men: 1) Black men 2) White men 3) East Asian men. 4) West Asian men 5) Latino / Hispanic men. Best looking women: 1) West Asian women 2) East Asian women 3) Latina women 4) White women 5) Black women

Amen to you for reminding us all.
And, of course, there are plenty of people not into women's studies per se who will be exposed to the question just signing in. So, you are reaching the whole audience in a limited way.
I don't wig out. I try not to focus on it, because I don't want the images to get into my ehad and affect me so much.
Most of life is what we choose to attend to, anyway!

Yes, it is sad. Women should weight normal to look normal.
Modelling world with it`s unnormal heroin-models is driving it`s own "crazy train to nowhere" and people shouldn`t follow it.
