Actually, this is 'putting the cart before the horse'. There is a common syndrome of feeling sad/depressed first, followed by the attempt to 'self comfort' by eating high sugar content food. This gives what is called a 'sugar hit' which may temporarily relieve the sense of depression by promoting the formation of serotonin in the brain. This is a neuroaffective hormone which is the reverse of depression in its effect. Low serotonin expression in the brain leads to depression. And of course and pattern of eating like this is bound to lead to weight gain, particularly if associated with lethargy and reduced exercise.
Chocolate in particular contains substances called tryptophanes, which are the 'building blocks' of serotonin production.

All of this is normal, your hormones are in a race, and none of them can find the finish line. I have been there done that with my 2nd child. I felt that I could just look at someone and I could have killed them. Lack of sleep adds to this problem, and since you already have 2 kids, I beat you aren't getting my sleep and rest during the day. Relax, tell your hubby you need a break and take a trip away from everyone, even if its just to a hotel to stay a few days so you can get some rest. Any type of rest and relaxation will help improve your mood.

Sometimes I don't know if I'm depressed because I've gained weight, or if I've gained weight because I'm depressed. I used to think I was a reasonably attractive guy - now I'm 25-30 lbs. overweight and my self esteem is in the gutter. So, to answer your question, a 10.

Good luck!
