Don't take Brasso whatever you do. Go to a music store get a trumpet snake it is plastic coated wired with brushes on each end. In a plastic container or use the bathtub but use a towel on the bottom as to not scratch the trumpet or bath tub. Use warm water with dish soap. Pull out the slides take out the valves ensure you keep them in order and clean the trumpet, and slides. Run the snake to remove any residue from the tubing of the trumpet. Rinse with running water when done. Then dry with a microfiber towel, use slide grease (you can use Vaseline in a pinch) for lubing the slides. Use trumpet valve oil for the valves.
When returning the valves, each valve will have a guide and twist ever so slightly and gently until the slide goes back in place and you should be good to go.
Enjoy

No offense taken. I think you should go to a music store and they will have antiseptic stuff to kill the germs. Make sure yo drain the spit valve, that can get NASTY!
