In the group table, the goal difference is only the third deciding factor. The first is the points total. The second is the head-to-head record.

It comes down to the goal difference between the two sides who are on the same points in the games theyve played only...so 3-2 and 1-0 ...3-3 ...obviously away goals rule counts as two so celtic have better goal difference over united because of the 2 away goals at old trafford

the head to head results is used as the first tie-breaker at the UEFA Champions' League. as both Manchester United & Glasgow Celtic are tied with 3 goals each after both meetings, Glasgow Celtic has the better head to head record coz they scored 2 of the goals at Old Trafford, Manchester on matchday 1.

any goals scored at away ground is consider as double, so Glasgow Celtic is above Manchester United & they have secured a place in the knock-out stage regardless of what happened when Manchester United host SL Benfica on matchday 6 in December 2006.

It is because the two other teams; Man Utd and Benfica which is still have chance to qualify will meet each other on the last group match. So the match gives advantage to Celtic.

if man u lose the team that beat them will have more points SO that team will go through celtic go through because they have a better record in head to head games against MAN U
