From the history Channel internet site: In 1621, the Plymouth colonists and Wampanoag Indians shared an autumn harvest ceremonial dinner this is recognized on the instant as between the 1st Thanksgiving celebrations in the colonies. For extra effective than 2 centuries, days of thanksgiving have been celebrated via person colonies and states. It wasn't till 1863, in the midst of the Civil conflict, that President Abraham Lincoln proclaimed a nationwide Thanksgiving Day to be held each and each November. (somewhat over simplified, nonetheless i think of.) maximum christian holiday journeys, incredibly Christmas and Easter have been in part stolen from pagan holiday journeys, yet Thanksgiving isn't one in all those - it rather isn't any longer a non secular holiday. this is a nationwide holiday. ~

No. Thanksgiving started with the coming together of the English immigrants to America (the Pilgrims) and the indigineous people (American indians) to share the fruits of their labors. According to the History Channel below, it was a secular holiday to the English and they didn't even use the term "Thanksgiving" to describe it. Therefore it couldn't have had pagan origins because it was totally secular. That was its very beginnings; there was no celebration of the holiday prior to that.
