The story of King Kong was made specifically for the movie - it's not based on a "real life" legend. The movie itself has become a legend of the fantasy genre, but has no basis in some other story. The island does not really exist as it is depicted in the movies, except for the fact that an island was used in the movie. It would be interesting to find an island that was like the one in the movie, with prehistoric life forms roaming around, but such a thing doesn't happen in today's modern world, where everything has been explored and charted.

Don't think so. He's just a character that was made a movie about him, i think initially back in the 1930s. Sasquatch (Big Foot) is a legend, or the Loch Ness Monster.
