I had an ex boyfriend years ago with this problem. You could set off fireworks above his head, and He would sleep through it.

Here are some suggestions I have heard about. Make sure Your bedroom doesn't have a television. Look at it as a place to rest. Limit caffeine at least three hours before sleep, possibly four. And make sure You have eaten somthing, it is hard to sleep on an empty stomach. Make sure You don't do anything like get online and let something upset You before bedtime.

As You lay in Your bed say "I lovingly release the day, and drift into peaceful sleep" Say it slowy and feel it. Sounds silly but it helps. You have to redirect Your thought pattern. Then try counting sheep. Imagine a beautiful really fat sheep slowly saundering up to a very tall fence, then slowly jumping up and over it...that is one, then continue, but everything has to be slow and peaceful. While Your laughing now remember that what You are doing isn't working, and sleeping is all that matters.

In the book Heal Your Life A - Z, by Louise L. Hay. It states for the problem of Insomnia, the Probable Cause is - Fear, Not trusting the process of life. Guilt. That is why they say that people that have no guilt can sleep like babies. Just a saying. And the New Thought Pattern is: I lovingly release the day and slip into peaceful sleep, knowing tomorrow will take care of itself. Then every time a problem or thought pops into Your head, You must dismiss it. Your head has to be thought free to enter into a restful sleep.

And just in case You take any medications You need to make sure any that would keep You awake are taken early.

And the alarms, are they where You have to get up to turn them off? And are the times staggered by 3 to 5 minutes each?

They have done extensive sleep studies lately and say that We should get 7 to 8 hours of sleep a night, really 8 and 1/2. They said the average Person gets 6, and You possibly 4 I am guessing. It is the deep rem sleep that is needed for complete rest. The study also revealed that most Americans are sleep deprived, and that that sleep deprivation adds, up and eventually takes it's toll. Like do You find Yourself falling asleep places? Some say You can make the defecit up to some degree, and some do not.

Best of Luck with many restful nights in the Future, and Good Luck on Your Education.

There is such a think as sleeping too much. Healthy sleeping hours for the body is 8 hours. No more, no less. I would try going to bed around a decent time like 10-11PM. Then sleeping 8-10 hours and getting up.

you gave your own answer - "My sleeping patterns are non-existant, I usually sleep anything from 0-14 hours, and wake up and crash at wildly different times as well, even though I attempt to keep a schedule." You really should stick to a schedule. I don't know your living habits, but you should try to go to bed around maybe 12 or 1, and wake up at 8 or 9. if you stick to your schedule of sleeping and waking up around the same times every day, things will get better.

My recommendation is that you use the power of intention or even a kind of self hypnosis to help you wake in time. I have known people who go to sleep thinking "I need to wake at 8am" over and over again and they just do - no alarm clock. You can also try to remind yourself that you can do anythng and that you can wake easily when you hear the alarm.

If you can't get good results in about a week with dilligent practice (and by that I mean each night at bed time and during the day whenever you hear your mind say "I can't wake up" or anythng of the sort you correct yourself and say "I can do anything and I can wake easily when I hear an alarm") I would say maybe see if you can get hypnotized by a qualified therapist.

Peace!

you can sleep through 3 alarm clocks? wow! impressive!

waking up is all about attitude..try to think of something to look forward to in the day, maybe a special person you'll get to see in your first class or something :-)

get one of those timer coffee makers, set it for your wake up time. when you wake up, grab the coffee and drink it fast! get that caffeine in your veins.

unfortunately, the only thing that will help is the obvious, go to sleep earlier. don't hang out on the internet too much :-)

I had a boyfriend who had this trouble. He finally realized that if he adjusted his alarm clock to a static station and turned up the volume then it would wake him up. Hate to tell you but what is more important your job, school or a social life. sometimes it is alright to make sacrifices.
