There is an eject button on the bottom right side of the screen under the iPod tab in iTunes, click it and wait until the Do Not Disconnect message goes away.

It just means it is registering to your computer. It's a good thing. You can unplug it when it says so. Make sure your songs are all downloaded before you unplug it and nothing will go wrong, okay?

its saying do not disconnect because it is synchronizing the ipod to your computer.if you want to disconnect it there should be a icon on the bottom right of your screen saying something like disconnect just double click that and press disconnect (okay) then your ipod should be able to disconnect..
