of course its thanksgiving and my boiler isnt working. i know a little bit about how they work but cant figure this one out on my own. i was wondering if the fuel burning unit was gravity fed or if it pumped the oil in? i tried to hit the reset button and prime the line but when i crack open the bleeder nothing comes out (neither air nor oil). i was wondering if it could be a blockage in the line or if the pump for the fuel isnt working? any other info needed just ask. thanks for the help ahead of time.

The bleader you tried " i tried to hit the reset button and prime the line but when i crack open the bleeder nothing comes out (neither air nor oil"
Is on the fuel pump. you are either out of oil ( gas stations sell #1 diesel try adding 5 gallons to empty tank) check the oil level in your fuel tank, if the wheater has been below freezing, it could be frozen water in the line, gelled fuel (try warming the line ) When you bleed the line, do you get any burps of fuel? or just air? put the bleader line in a jar of oil and see if the pump is even pushing the air out. You may not have opened the bleader enough, or even to far. check any shut off valves to see if someone may have turned off the flow of oil to your furnace.
More info is needed to fully answer the question, theese are some basic starting points.
CAUTION--- Do not reset burner more than 3 times unless you are sure no oil is getting into the burner. use flash light and look thru inspection hole. if you alow fuel to accumilate in the burner, and it does ignite, it could cause explosion.
Trouble shoot a little more and give details to get more informative answer.

Assuming that you have oil the next step is to check the filter , next make sure the pump has power ,be careful . Next call repair man. I used to hate oil . If possible get gas.

again I assume things.... you cracked open the line....yes... but was the motor running? if not you wont get much oil then...to bleed it you need to run the motor, keep it running(jumper out the flame sensor) and then if no oil you have a blockage..
