For some reason every time I sign on I get a message from Norton that they have stopped someone from changing my home page. When I check details it is something called "about: blank". I have tried removing my temporary internet files and running a spyware search and it still comes up every time I sign on again. Does anyone know how to get rid of this about: blank for good?

I have found that when I close IE, it seems the last page is About: blank. I think blank is like a new page in word - it is the first thing IE opens and the last thing it closes and it is part of how the system works.

It seems that it is trying to change your page, because that is what is showing when the action starts, but that is not the cause of your problem. The software's that try to change your home page are generally adware or spyware and they run on your computer as IE is starting up - hence the code running while blank is your page when IE starts.

Scan your system for adware and spyware using norton (or some other program) and remove it. If you can not, count yourself lucky that norton has blocked the code change for your home page and enjoy your day.

Peace!

Try these.

Spybot - Search & Destroy detects and removes spyware, a relatively new kind of threat not yet covered by common anti-virus applications. Spyware silently tracks your surfing behaviour to create a marketing profile for you that is transmitted without your knowledge to the compilers and sold to advertising companies. If you see new toolbars in your Internet Explorer that you haven't intentionally installed, if your browser crashes inexplicably, or if your home page has been "hijacked" (or changed without your knowledge), your computer is most probably infected with spyware. Even if you don't see the symptoms, your computer may be infected, because more and more spyware is emerging. Spybot-S&D is free, so there's no harm giving it a try to see if something has invaded your computer.
