Thanksgiving parades were to kick of the Christmas shopping season. On Christmas, people are busy opening presents or going to church and don't have time for parades except at Disneyland and Disney World.

The Thanksgiving Day parade concept was started by department stores to get the customers downtown to their stores. Historically this is the beginning of the shopping season for Christmas presents. It would not do much good to get them to the stores when Christmas is already happening,

Christmas morning is also a time that families spend time together. Thanksgiving morning does not have the same tradition.

They miss the whole point with their politically correct garbage. They don't want to offend anyone with a Christmas parade but they have a Thanksgiving parade. The pilgrims came to North America to escape religious persecution. They were thanking God for their new home and new friends, the natives.

because who would want to stand outside in the middle of winter watching a parade on Christmas day?

also, people are very busy during Christmas, no time to make the floats & balloons.

Christmas is also a religious holiday, parades are not part of that.. what are you going to have, a huge 50-ft high balloon of Jesus?

To keep being PC, you'd have to have a Kwanzaa and Hanukkah parade too....

to be cynical about it, one of the main reasons of the Macy's day parade is to kick off the Christmas shopping season, a Christmas parade wouldn't have the same effect.
