They travel with only one or two security detail, and in a busy place in public they can not be everywhere watching everything.
He may have been checking the kitchen, perhaps going to the restroom, perhaps watching people comming in.
pickpockets and snatch theives are good and fast, they are trained to do it without being seen.

The Secret Service will probably be tolerant of the incident. They could have run after the thief but their primary responsibility was to protect the young woman, and since it might have been a ruse for a planned kidnapping their duty was to stay put. Persons being protected by the Secret Service also have input into how much distance they want between them and their agents, which could also be a mitigating factor.

yes and there should be more of them these one were no good. If I was bush I would want to investigate and find out where they were and what happen. I know he grateful that they are ok. but they should have more secret service and this won't happen and better ones it could have been a stalker you just don't know.

i think she got drunk and just lost her purse, and now she wants to blame the secret service, looking at both his daughters you can see they are nothing but spoiled little brats.
