It could have happened a lot of ways- snagged in something, bitten by the other turtle, etc.

If it is no longer bleeding, just keep it clean and give the turtle a chance to rest.

I STRONGLY suggest you go to a site like http://www.austinsturtlepage.com and review box turtle care- there might be some changes you want to make to make the turtles happier.

The box turtle is fine. It most likely got the nail caught on something or bitten off. Unless the area is infected or bleeding you have nothing to worry about. Make sure the tank has nothing that the turtle can get hurt on, and look up some care sheets in regards to the specific species of your turtle.

First of all you should remember to give your turtles calcium !!!
It´s very important to prevent things like this happen !
Uva, es very important too !They must take long hours (12hs a day).
Remember giving calcium, vitamin A", uva, and a correct food to prevent illness!!
If you need more help, just look information on the web, or just ask .
Good Luck!

It should be fine. If it is bleeding, stick its foot in some flour to stop it.
